World Teachers’ Day
October 01, 2009
Winnipeg, Manitoba – Shelly Glover, Member of Parliament for Saint Boniface and Parliamentary Secretary for Official Languages, proudly recognizes World Teachers’ Day.

UNESCO designated October 5 World Teachers’ Day in 1994, and this year marks its 15th anniversary. It is an occasion for teachers, parents and anyone interested in education to celebrate the vital role of teachers around the world and their importance to our society.

Being the mother of 5 children, Glover fully understands the field of teaching and the exceptional work teachers do for our children.

“There’s more to teaching than helping children learn to read, write and count. You have to inspire them, unleash their potential and give them a new way of looking at things. Teaching means helping children turn their dreams of a better world into reality and helping them build it,” said the MP.

UNESCO created World Teachers’ Day because the vital contribution of teachers to education and children’s development must be more fully understood, recognized and appreciated. Today with over 100 countries celebrating this Day, we move closer and closer to that goal as teachers gain recognition.

“World Teachers’ Day is an occasion to celebrate the valuable work of teachers in Saint Boniface, Canada and the world. I wish teachers everywhere a wonderful Day and an excellent school year,” concluded Shelly Glover.
