50th Anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child

On November 20, we will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child.

Mother of 5 children, Shelly Glover, MP for Saint Boniface, is very proud to highlight the significance of this day.

“We must remember that, while children are our future, they are still vulnerable today. That is why it is so important for us to protect them and support them,” she said.

1In the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations has proclaimed that childhood is entitled to special care and assistance, given that the family, as the fundamental group of society and the natural environment for the growth and well-being of all its members and particularly children, should be afforded the necessary protection and assistance so that it can fully assume its responsibilities within the community.

1The child, for the full and harmonious development of his or her personality, should grow up in a family environment, in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding.

“On this special day, I encourage all the people of Saint Boniface to think of the children around the world who haven’t had the chance to grow up in a peaceful environment,” said Glover. “Continue to instill in your children the values that are important to us here in Canada such as dignity, tolerance, freedom, equality and solidarity.”
