Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Member for Saint-Boniface, Shelly Glover, Parliamentary Secretary for Official Languages, who is also Métis, wishes to point out that November 16 is a day of commemoration of Métis heroes such as Louis Riel.
“On this special day we not only reflect on the execution of our great hero Louis Riel, but also pay tribute to the many Métis patriots who have been laid to rest in the same cemetery,” stated Mrs. Glover.
This tradition has been carried on by the Union nationale métisse Saint-Joseph du Manitoba. A gravestone for Louis Riel was unveiled in the Saint Boniface cemetery on November 16, 1891.
“I commend the tremendous work of the UNMSJM in recent years, and especially that of their President, Gabriel Dufault, with whom I have had some very interesting discussions,” added Mrs. Glover.
